The halogenerator is the core technical element of an active salt room. Salt bricks, salt plaster and lighting create the atmosphere, but it is the halogenerator that releases dry salt aerosol into the air – the environment the salt room exists for. In this article we explain what the device is, how it works, and what its correct operation depends on.

A halogenerator is a machine that grinds dry salt into fine particles and releases them into the room as a dry salt aerosol. Without a halogenerator, a salt room can have salt walls and a distinctive look, but there is no active supply of aerosol. That is why we call the halogenerator the heart of every professional salt room.

The operating principle can be described in a few steps. First, specially selected dry salt is loaded into the machine. The salt is then dosed according to the set parameters and the operating programme. A mechanical system grinds the salt down to micron-sized particles, and a fan system delivers the resulting aerosol into the room. When the session ends, the system can switch to a mode that airs the room and prepares it for the next session.

Our Harisma Salt Halo NM1 is built from three replaceable units – a doser, a mill and a fan. It is made of stainless steel and natural plastic and is operated through a control panel with an LCD screen. The unit independently controls the room’s ventilation system.

A halogenerator does not work in isolation – it is part of the room’s overall system. Ventilation, lighting, heating and the way the room will be used all have to be coordinated at the design stage.
