A home salt room
Is it possible to build a salt room at home, and what are the most common solutions. The article looks at the different options for home halotherapy, the requirements for the space, and the equipment possibilities.
Salt rooms are no longer reserved for hotels and spa centres. Building one at home is entirely possible and an increasingly popular choice – a private space for halotherapy that is always available and fits your family’s routine. Here is what is worth knowing before you start.
In a home setting we can build either a full salt room or a more compact salt corner. The choice depends on the space available, the look you want and how the room will be used. A home project can be a compact solution for everyday preventive care or the finishing touch to a more luxurious home spa.
There is no single rule for the shape of the room – niches, corners, beams and pipes can often become part of the design and turn a flaw into a feature. There are, however, a few basic requirements: the room must have no source of moisture, it must be possible to install ventilation, the ceiling must be a suitable height, and the floor must allow for correct installation. A room in a flat, part of a house or a space adapted to the design can all work.
The minimum size depends on the purpose, the number of people who will use the room, and the equipment. As a general rule, a home solution can start from around 2 m². No two home projects are the same – the floor area, the shape of the space and the level of finish all matter.
We start with a survey of the room and a concept based on the space and the look you want. We use white Greek salt for the salt plaster and the floor, Himalayan salt bricks and decorative salt elements, plus lighting and effects to suit the design. We specify our in-house halogenerator, matched to the room, along with the necessary installations and ventilation. On completion we set everything up, show you how to use it, and give guidance on correct operation and maintenance.
Home salt rooms are often designed with children in mind as well. The space can combine a rest area with a play corner and decorative murals, so that time in the room is enjoyable for the youngest members of the family too.
Home solutions usually start from around €3,000 excluding VAT. The final cost depends on the size, equipment, effects and level of finish. We can also design the project around a set budget.
Broadly speaking, maintenance involves a short daily clean of the halogenerator, periodic upkeep of the salt environment, and cleaning and levelling the floor salt as needed. If you have questions or need service, we remain available.
